The Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics is now planning its 8th Encuentro, which will take place at theUniversidad del Claustro de Sor Juana in Mexico City on March 17-25, 2012. We are very much looking forward to this gathering—so please mark your calendars!

Tentatively titled "Cities | Bodies | Action," the 9-day event will examine the broad intersections between urban space, performance and political action in the Americas. From the critical poetics of body art to the occupation of public space through political protest, the Encuentro will explore the complex ecology of boundaries, identities and practices in and through which power is forged, reproduced and contested across urban space.  Taking advantage of our privileged location in the heart of Mexico City’s Historic Center, this theme will be the point of departure for a range of performances, installations, exhibits, roundtable discussions, workshops, long tables, lectures, and work groups.

The Festive Devils of the Americas project will initiate a proposal for our work group and we hope you will join us! Contact us for more information at  or visit the Encuentro 2011 page for more information.
